The BIGGEST Legal Mistake
Written by Andrew Brown
You might hear about it a couple times a year from your neighbour, co-worker or someone in the family. You always have the same reaction; you shake your head and say, “That’s a shame,” or “How horrible, how sad”. And then the follow-up reaction:
“That could never happen to me.”
The biggest legal mistake that individuals, families or businesses make is the belief that someway, some how that bad thing (divorce and separation, family estate dispute, business break-up) would not and could not happen to them.
It’s an utter fallacy. We see it every day. EVERY DAY.
It’s such a negative drain on lives, on families and our community (and also buys conflict lawyers boats and puts their kids through private school).
It’s easy to believe because you won’t have to confront that it could happen. If you don’t believe it’s going to happen, you don’t have to do anything about it. And there’s the mistake.
The reality is none of us know what the future holds. None of us can ever be sure. You can be sure that there will be good things and bad. That’s life.
One day you and your family could be the one that have your neighbours saying, “What a shame”. Don’t you want to be prepared for that? Don’t you want to know what you can do about it before it happens? Minimize the chances that it does?
Or do you want to ignore this and be the family that buys a lawyer a boat?
Hope is not a plan.
This is not intended to be harsh. This is intended to be real because life is not just good things. Our community experiences the worst of these horrible and costly events because they are unpleasant to confront until it’s too late. That has to stop. For the sake of your family and your community, take action!
Brown Lawyers advises individuals, families and businesses to enjoy the good times and prepare for the bad. We understand that life is full of ups and downs. Our community tells us about it every day.
