Why I’m Launching a Podcast About Living Fully and Leaving Well

The Spark That Lit the Fire

For years, I’ve sat across from individuals and families, hearing their stories — not just about money or assets, but about love, conflict, disappointment, hope, and legacy. Again and again, I’ve watched as traditional estate and business planning failed to protect what mattered most. The process focused on documents, tax savings, and asset transfers, but life was missing from the planning.

The human experience — the relationships, wisdom, responsibility, and meaning — was never part of the conversation. And without meaning, even the most meticulously prepared plans still led many families into conflict, confusion, and heartbreak.

A Different Kind of Planning — And Why It Had to Change

Early in my legal career, I followed the system the way I was taught. People had wills. They had powers of attorney. They had insurance. They had businesses and investments. But even with all the boxes checked, families still came to me, shattered after the illness or death of a loved one.

I realized that the industry’s way simply didn’t work. When people suffer, it affects far more than their finances — it disrupts families, workplaces, and communities. And as a father raising my children in this very community, I knew I had to find a better way.

What I built wasn’t a radical invention. It was a synthesis — drawing from multiple disciplines to create something that finally aligned legal planning with real life. After 15 years of development, I can say with confidence: when applied, this approach doesn’t just prevent fracture — it enhances life today.

Now it’s time to bring that message to more people than I could ever reach in my office.

Why “Live Fully, Leave Well”

living well podcast

The name came from a simple, yet profound truth I’ve witnessed over and over: how we live is how we die. Life and death are not opposites; they are a continuation of the same experience. We cannot separate them, and we shouldn’t try.

We live fully when we recognize that our time is finite. We leave well when we’ve infused our lives — and our planning — with clarity, intention, responsibility, and love. And this isn’t just about wealth. Legacy isn’t measured by dollars. It’s measured by wisdom, values, stories, and the care we give to those who will carry on after us.

The Podcast: What to Expect in Season One

The Live Fully, Leave Well podcast is not just more content — it’s a calling. A space for honest, courageous, and sometimes uncomfortable conversations about life, aging, death, and legacy.

Season One will center on People Over Process — exploring:

  • What true legacy means (and doesn’t mean)
  • The responsibility that comes with caregiving
  • How families can navigate tough decisions together
  • The peace that comes from proactive, intentional planning
  • Stories from real people who have faced these moments and found clarity

The Bigger Picture: Changing Our Relationship with Death

Culturally, we’ve distanced ourselves from aging and death. We warehouse our elders. We pretend death is something that happens later, to someone else. And in doing so, we lose access to the wisdom and humanity that could enrich our lives today.

When we approach death transactionally, we live transactionally. That’s not who we are. We are not commodities. We are not tools for the economy. We are the sum of everything that’s come before us and the seed of everything that will follow.

We need to reclaim death as part of life — to embrace the reality that we will die, so that we can finally live fully. Memento mori. We all have two lives, and the second one begins when we realize we only have one.

A Culture Shift, One Conversation at a Time

My ultimate goal is to shift how our society approaches planning, aging, and death — to move beyond paperwork and into meaningful, values-driven conversations that strengthen individuals, families, and communities.

Live Fully, Leave Well will explore the tough questions:

  • What is true legacy?
  • How do we prepare not just for death, but for life?
  • What do we owe ourselves and each other as we age?
  • How do we experience peace when the end arrives?

These are not easy questions. But they are necessary. And they begin today, while we still have breath.
