Brown Lawyers Share Your Stories article - Person writing letter to family with Christmas present in the foreground.

The winter solstice is a perfect time to share your stories. It lands on December 21st each year, which means we have almost made it through the darkest time of the year. After that, as we celebrate the holidays, we can take comfort in the knowledge that the days will start getting longer. The changing of the season presents us with an opportunity to reflect on everything that we can be grateful for this holiday season.

In the spirit of gratitude, Brown Lawyers invites you to prepare gifts that will have a lasting impact on your loved ones. Share your stories. These gifts are meaningful because their value comes not from what they cost but from what they say about you – the giver. These types of gifts will be cherished by your loved ones precisely because they will always hold a sacred connection to you.

Give the gift of your story.

You could write it down or record it. What was your first job? What is the hardest decision you have ever made? What were your parents like? What was your room like growing up? What is the first time you remember being afraid? What is the most interesting trip you have ever taken? Life is a story and yours can be a gift.

Share your favourite recipes.

Is there a dish or dessert that everyone raves about and has to be brought to every significant gathering? Or perhaps you have a collection of favourite recipes. We connect with one another through food and that makes the gift of a recipe more meaningful.

Share wise words.

Is there a poem that has significant meaning for you? Perhaps you have been transformed or guided by another’s words of advice or wisdom over the years. Take the opportunity to write them down and share them with your loved ones.

Give the gift of music.

Share a list of songs that make you happy or remind you of significant events and special occasions. You could even make a playlist of your favourite songs and give this as a gift. Music connects and unites us.

Share family traditions and memories.

Write down or record your most cherished traditions and treasured memories. What makes these meaningful to you? Sharing memories and traditions with those you love opens a window into your past that they might not know about.
It will take courage to give these kinds of gifts. When you share your stories it requires you to give something very personal, but know that these are the gifts that will truly keep on giving.

Wishing you all a safe and happy holiday season.
